Tuesday, January 8, 2008 Half Acre Cycling Half Acre is proud to introduce Half Acre Cycling, Chicago's newest cycling team. We're very pleased to be able to work with a great bunch of riders. Please go and check them out at their website www.halfacrecycling.org Monday, December 10, 2007 Half Acre on Draught We're pleased to announce that as of December 18th you'll be able to head out and grab a pint of Half Acre Lager on Draught. We're only offering up our draught beer at a few places that we really like to get things rolling. You can find us on tap at: Sheffield's, Small Bar on Division and the Village Tap on Roscoe will be added shortly. We paid through the nose for our beautiful, half-barrel, stainless steel kegs with "Half Acre Beer Co," engraved in the side. So if you see a scrapper out there pushing a shopping cart with one of these glistening gems inside, I'm asking that you do what's necessary to rip that barrel from his clutches and bring it to us. I'll give you a free six-pack, and I'll also give the scrapper a six-pack if he comes along. Thanks for the help.
Monday, December 10, 2007 Hops & Malted Barley Beating Us Up... Recent months have proven to be interesting for Half Acre Beer Co and fellow beer companies in the US and abroad. A range of complications have caused the price of Hops and Malted Barley to go through the roof, and many of the favorite hops used by craft brewers are just nowhere to be found. Low overall agricultural output and crop damage have caused hops to disappear to those who don’t have long-standing, contracted relationships with suppliers, and Corn has been a go-to crop for Barley farmers due to the marketability of Ethanol. What this means: It’s tough for tiny companies to find what they need, and very expensive once we do. However, we’re still kicking out Half Acre Lager and quality hasn’t been compromised. We’re still coming out with an Ale in the coming months, but we have to rethink it so it can be a viable option for the long-term. We have to secure the right ingredients and make sure that we don’t have to charge $40 a six-pack in order to make it. Thanks to all the folks heading out and drinking our beer.
